Transportation

How to get there?

The biggest airport in Greece is of course Athens International Airport (ATH). Touristy islands have their own airports with both scheduled flights, but mostly charter flights going there. Here you will find a list of all airports in Greece. It is also possible to take a ferry from Brindisi, Italy or Turkey (Izmir – Piraeus).

How to get around?

Athens has a well developt public transportation infrastructure. Check out this link for more information. On bigger islands like Crete public busses are available. Renting mopeds/quad bikes/cars is also popular on the islands and necessary if you are planning to go to places outside towns.

How to get from town to town?

Mainland Greece has trains and busses running between cities.  Many islands have ferry connections to other islands or the mainland.

Money, Money, Money

Currency

Greece is part of the Eurozone and therefore uses the Euro as its currency. Check out the currency converter to find out about current exchange rates.

Accommodation

Depending on where you are staying prices will vary of course. Expect to be paying around 40€ per person per night.

Cash

Even though credit cards are widely accepted, you should still withdraw Euros at an ATM. Especially on small islands cash is still king. How much you will need of course depends on your spending habits. Expect to need around 40€ per day for food, transportation, activities and souvenirs.
