MY STORY
About Me
What I do and who this website is for
We live in a wonderfully diverse world and there is so much out there to explore, so many places to see. Most of us work a regular job though, have a house or apartment and other responsibilities and can’t just leave to travel the world for a year at a time. But this is not the only way to do it. I work a regular job and have done my fair share of travelling and exploring the world and you can do it too!
I plan all my trips myself: from the flight to accommodation, local transportation, activities and food. I found that packaged holidays rarely meet my preferences, needs and budget and prefer to decide myself how long I want to stay in a place and what I want to do there. I prefer to stay with locals rather than in big hotels where you will only meet other tourists and like to go off the beaten track and visit places other tourists don’t go to.
I’m based in Europe; my first language is not English though. If you notice any discrepancies, please let me know and I will correct it. I decided to write this blog in English to reach a larger community.
Why did I start this blog?
If you have a question regarding a special topic, chances are you have someone in your circle of friends who you will ask. Well, in my circle of friends for travel related questions this was me 😊 Where do you think is a good destination for a 2 weeks’ vacation in September? Which places should I visit when going to Tenerife? Can you recommend a good gelateria in Rome? What should I pack? I hate long flights. Do you have any tips how to make them more bearable? How much money do you think I’ll need?… I was happy to help my friends any time I could until one day one of them suggested I should start writing a blog and share my knowledge with a bigger community – and that’s what I did.
Who is this blog for?
There are many travel blogs out there written by people who travel full time. While this might be a dream for some, not everybody wants to spend his/her life on the road. It’s not just about the money. There are many good tips on how to travel with little money and how to afford a life as a full-time traveler. Many people – including myself – enjoy having a place to come back home to. Having a home (no matter if it’s a rental apartment or property) will cause a major financial liability. Now it’s not that easy anymore to just take off and travel for 2 months without a solid financial background. Also: what about other obligations like family or pets you might have to care for? And what about people who really do love their jobs and don’t just want to quit them?
I found that people who want to travel full time are a minority. Most of us want to spend just some time of the year travelling – not all of it. And these are the people this blog is dedicated to. I will show you how to make the best of the time given and help you book your perfect trip.
What makes this blog different?
You won’t find any sponsored links on this website. Everything that’s recommended was tested by Cat on the road. I’ve personally visited all countries presented in the destination section and I’m happy to answer any question you might have. Cat on the road will help you skip common mistakes and plan and book your perfect trip yourself.
What places have I visited and what are my plans?
Currently I’ve been to 48 countries and 6 continents. As I neither want to become a full-time traveler nor want to just hop from one country to the next without exploring I don’t have the goal of visiting every country in the world. My current goal are 100 countries, 7 continents and having visited every country in Europe.
