Bosnia uses Type F plug outlets. They also work with Type C and E plugs. The voltage is 220 Volt and the frequency is 50 Hz.

The official languages of Bosnia and Herzegovina are Bosnian, Croatian and Serbian. All three of these languages are mutually intelligible. You can get by with English just fine though, especially when talking to the younger generation.

Transportation

How to get there?

Butmir Airport (SJJ) in Sarajevo is the main airport in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is a rather small airport though and it might be difficult to get a direct flight from outside Europe.

The most convenient way to get to Bosnia would be by bus from other Central or Southern European countries. Bear in mind that lines at the border can be quite long during high season.

How to get around?

Cities in Bosnia are small enough to walk everywhere. However, there are also public buses available. Sarajevo also has a tram.

How to get from town to town?

You can either take a bus or rent a car. There are also two train operators: Željeznice Republike Srpske in Republika Srpska and Željeznice Federacije Bosne i Hercegovine in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Bus connections are more popular though.

Money, Money, Money

Currency

The currency of Bosnia and Herzegovina is the Convertible Mark. Many restaurants and shops in touristy areas also accept Euros. Check out the currency converter to find out about current exchange rates.

Accommodation

Depending on where you are staying prices will vary of course. I paid 18€ per night using Airbnb.

Cash

Even though credit cards are widely accepted, you should still either bring some Euros or withdraw Marks from an ATM. Cash is still king in many places like restaurants, markets and small shops. How much you will need of course depends on your spending habits. Expect to need around 27€ per day for food, transportation, activities and souvenirs.
